Kindergarten
Shape Castles
After learning about shapes, students studied mentor artist Paul Klee. Then, they used shape and color to create their own castles.



1st Grade
Frida Kahlo inspired Self Portraits
Students studied mentor artist Frida Kahlo. They then practiced observational drawing using mirrors. Finally, they created fantasy surroundings. Students utilized graphite, sharpie, and watercolor paints.



2nd Grade
Comics & Landscapes
Students learned that varied drawings, captions, speech and thought can create a detailed event to tell a narrative story. 2nd graders also did a SPS 20th Century Landscape Diagnostic.





3rd Grade
Autobiographical Graphic Panels
Students studied the components/style of several graphic artists. After selecting a small-seed moment that left an impact, students created their own graphic panels.



4th Grade
Book of Me
Students chose 3 events that helped form the person they are today. Then, they chose their own art styles and mediums to depict their events/emotions.



5th Grade
Neurographic Art & Still Life
Neurographic art is a therapeutic art form that combines science and art to create a meditative experience that can help students reduce stress and gain perspective. The process involves drawing freeform lines, smoothing out the intersections, and filling in the spaces with text, zentangles and doodles. 5th graders also did a SPS 20th Century Still Life Diagnostic.





Kindergarten
Kusama Flowers
Students studied mentor artist Yayoi Kusama. Using water color pencils, Q-tips and Tempera paint, students created their own flowers.



First Grade
Mexican Skull Art
As part of Hispanic Heritage month, students learned about Dia De Los Muertos and Mexican Sugar Skulls. Then students created their own symmetrical skull art.



Second Grade
Ex-Votos
Symbolism and meaning
-Devotion
-Gratitude
-Love
Students studied the history of Ex-Votos in Latin cultures. They then created their own paintings of gratitude.



Third Grade
Mexican Folk Masks
As part of Hispanic Heritage month, students learned about Dia De Los Muertos and traditional Mexican folk art. Then, students created their own symmetrical folk masks.



Fourth Grade
Jose Posada’s Textured Satires
Students studied mentor artist Jose Posada and his use of calaveras/esqueletos in his political satire (the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose) to create their own works of art.


Fifth Grade
Radial Origami
Students studied mentor artist Akira Yoshizawa and learned about radial symmetry. Using 3+ origami techniques, they created their own radial origami sculptures.
