Kindergarten

Moon
Students learned why the moon is so bright in the winter. They then studied mentor artist Georges de la Tour to learn about light and shadow to create their own winter moon scenes.

First Grade

Goldfinch
Students learned science facts about our Washington State bird. Then, using mixed medium (Sharpie, water color, oil pastels and printmaking) they made their own bird scenes.

Second Grade

Neurographic String Art
Students learned about fiber artist Pae White and neurographic art. Neurographic art is a therapeutic art form that combines science and art to create a meditative experience that can help students reduce stress and gain perspective.

Third Grade

Basquiat
Students studied mentor artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. Then students created culture/identity pre-writes. The final project was a mix media painting using tempera paint and crayons.

Fourth Grade

Resistance Shields
Students researched Black Lives Matter in connection to Black History. They then worked collaboratively in small groups to create “shields” with visuals, text art, and writing. This was a mixed media project using oil pastels and collage.

Fifth Grade

Radical Origami
Students studied mentor artist Akira Yoshizawa and learned about radial symmetry. Using 3 origami techniques, they created their own radial origami sculptures.
