Kindergarten
Shape Castles
After learning about shapes, students studied mentor artist Paul Klee. Then, they used shape and color to create their own castles.



1st Grade
Frida Kahlo inspired Self Portraits
Students studied mentor artist Frida Kahlo. They then practiced observational drawing using mirrors. Finally, they created fantasy surroundings. Students utilized graphite, sharpie, and watercolor paints.



2nd Grade
Comics & Landscapes
Students learned that varied drawings, captions, speech and thought can create a detailed event to tell a narrative story. 2nd graders also did a SPS 20th Century Landscape Diagnostic.





3rd Grade
Autobiographical Graphic Panels
Students studied the components/style of several graphic artists. After selecting a small-seed moment that left an impact, students created their own graphic panels.



4th Grade
Book of Me
Students chose 3 events that helped form the person they are today. Then, they chose their own art styles and mediums to depict their events/emotions.



5th Grade
Neurographic Art & Still Life
Neurographic art is a therapeutic art form that combines science and art to create a meditative experience that can help students reduce stress and gain perspective. The process involves drawing freeform lines, smoothing out the intersections, and filling in the spaces with text, zentangles and doodles. 5th graders also did a SPS 20th Century Still Life Diagnostic.
