Kindergarten

Herstory Torn Simile Portraits
Students learned about collage and creative simile writing. Students chose women that were important in their lives and collaged portraits brought to life by figurative-language writing.


Butterfly Monoprints
To support science in their classrooms, students learned more about butterfly parts/purpose. Students then printed butterflies from Gelli Plates and created texture gardens.

First Grade

Kandinsky Trees
Students studied mentor artist Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky. They learned about analogous colors, and then they created their own geometric color trees.

Yarn Birds
Earth Month and Poetry Month
Students looked at examples of “yarn bombing” street art. Then, they created their own fiber birds.
Finally, they explored some poetry and created bird poems.

Second Grade

Photography
Students studied basic camera functions and shot/angle techniques. They then created thumbnail sketches for their Best Part of Me ideas. Students worked collaboratively to take individual photos, print their work, and add detailed writing to their images.

Third Grade

Redesigned State Flag
This interdisciplinary art project was in addition to students’ State/Country Projects in their 3rd grade generalist classrooms. Students used research to collage three state/country components and a unification design element.

Fourth Grade

Vision Boards

Students learned about short-term and long-term goal-setting to envision passions, risk-taking,
family/friends, academics/ career, etc. They then used magazine collage and fiber to create movement and texture on their boards.


Fourth & Fifth Grade

Kiln Clay
Students learned about slab, coil and pinch-pot techniques. They then drew, built and glazed their passion projects.
