Art at LH – 2024 Winter and Spring

Students explored various materials, tools, and artistic processes/techniques to focus on personal interests and create works of art. Students utilized art vocabulary to describe elements and principles of design to express preferences, describe subject matter and reflect on their own creations.

Kindergarten

Haitian Art and Henri Rousseau
In celebration of Earth Month, students used recyclable materials to mono-print their own jungle landscapes. 

First Grade

Torn Herstory Simile Portraits
In celebration of Women’s Herstory Month, students chose a woman they admired to portraiture and write about using figurative language.  

Second Grade

Yayoi Kusama inspired Polka Dot Flowers
Students studied Kusama’s work and pop art to create their own personified flowers.

Third Grade

Jacob Lawrence inspired- The Great Migration
In celebration of Black History Month, students studied Lawrence’s work and created their own South/North panels.  

Fourth and Fifth Grade

African American Resistance Shields
In celebration of Black History Month and recognition of Black Lives Matters, students worked independently and in collaboration with one another to combine research, text and visuals to create collage shields.
