    Instrumental Music

Loyal Heights is proud to offer one full day of instrumental music instruction. Most schools only offer a half-day each week but due to the generosity of the community and the LHPTA, a full day per week is funded. This opportunity is open to 4th and 5th graders. There a choices of instruments in the string, brass, and woodwind families. Instruction takes place during the school day. The time slots of instruments are varied each week so students do not miss the same school scheduled instruction over the weeks.

    Instrumental Teacher Tasha Reynolds Bio
Hello! My name is Tasha Reynolds and this is my second year teaching in the Seattle School District. I teach instrumental music for 4th and 5th grade students at Dunlap, Rising Star, Wing Luke, Hawthorne, Beacon Hill, Loyal Heights and Greenwood! I taught music in Bellevue for 23 years for grades 5-12. I moved to the Seattle area in 1996 from Colorado Springs. My travels took me to Kiev Ukraine in 1995 where I taught middle school to American students of medical missionaries. In 2001 I completed a Master of Arts degree from the University of Washington with an emphasis on learning disabilities and music reading. I have a unique love for marching bands and pep bands and have both participated and directed them for over 25 years. I also love orchestral music and just completed 20 years playing oboe in the Northwest Symphony Orchestra. My new passion is for strings and I continue to study through lesson on the violin.

My focus for instrumental music education is centered around student achievement. I know the power music holds and the life changing possibilities it offers kids of all backgrounds. Learning a musical instrument gives a child a sense of belonging, raises self esteem and opens the door to self-expression. In my 26 years of teaching, I have seen music transform the lives of students. It happened to me when I was 11 years old and I have wanted to share the opportunity music has given me ever since.

Having taught all levels of music I especially love working with beginners. I feel honored to be a part of this most precious time of students' lives when the seeds of music are planted. I look forward to working along side the amazing teachers and students in Seattle this year.
