    New Books About Diversity!

The Parent RET (Race and Equity Team) provided funds to support the school RET to buy books on diversity. A committee was form with parents Maura McCulloch, Galen Longstreth, and Elizabeth Reiter and staff members Ms. Williams, Mrs. Lepse, and Ms. Norman.  The committee looked through various diversity books vetting tools and found one that we all agreed was an appropriate and functional too. After the committee researched and read many books that passed the vetting tool, a final list of books to purchase was decided. See entire list at the bottom of this article.

Here is vetting tool the group used, from a fabulous website

This year the focus was on Native American authors and books about disability— we also purchased books by a Latinx author, a Caribbean American author, and books about body size, immigration, gender, and whites privilege. Books were purchased for each grade level, specialists, and our counselor, Ms. Rider.

Here is a short video of the staff members and the books they received. You can see how happy and excited they are to add these titles to their class libraries.
